My Brow Obsession

So I’ve been going through an eyebrow phase and by eyebrow phase I mean obsessing over everything eyebrow related. From comparing eyebrows to figuring out my ideal eyebrow shape. To experimenting with different eyebrow drawing techniques. The first thing I notice about anyone right now is their eyebrows. My judgement on your character is based on whether you maintain or over maintain your eyebrows.

To complete my eyebrow obsession I have been constantly looking for the Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade. Which if you’ve heard of it, you know it sells out the same day as it comes in. And if you haven’t heard of it… It’s because it sells out before you even hear about it.
So it all started when I went to California during my reading break in February (it’s the spring break for university/college kids in BC, they like to call it reading break to make it sound more educational. No one ever reads during reading break I don’t anyways) I was in Ulta and I was in line waiting to pay and the lady before me was asking the cashier about the Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade and the cashier was saying how they got it in shipment that morning but they had sold out already and to try again in the next couple days because they never know what will be in their shipment. Strike one. Then I overheard another employee talking on the phone to a customer explaining the same thing: sold out, might come in the next shipment, they never know, good luck trying to find it because it literally is the Waldo of the beauty world right now. Strike two. I thought way too hyped up I’ll get it when they can keep up with the demand.

Anyways fast forward to the sephora VIB sale and my brow obsession continued I originally wanted to get the Anastasia brow whiz but the sales lady at sephora recommend that I get the pencil instead cause it’ll last longer. We got to to talking and even though it was sold out (strike three) she tried on the chocolate dipbrow pomade on me (I thought dark brown would be for me but it’s too grey on my brown/olive skin tone and ebony did not match my brown hair with caramel highlights.) it definitely made a difference. Left sephora with more than I should have left with…. At first I didn’t see what the big fuss was about until I went home and did all my day to day stuff; chores, homework, worked out. Tried to wash my face and realized I needed to use make up remover to take off my eyebrows. It had stayed on all day and hadn’t budged. Its waterproof too so I’m thinking days by the pool and my eyebrows will still be in place would be great! I use a Clinique balm to remove my make up btw. I don’t know if this dipbrow will become annoying to wash off every night I haven’t had it for very long. I’ll post my thoughts on this once I’ve had it for a little while to write a good review on it.

The next day I went about my usual eyebrow routine defining them with a pencil and it just wasn’t the same look that I got from the dipbrow. I wanted the outline with the filled in look but I didn’t want to line with a pencil and then have to fill it in with eyeshadow. I’d rather have just one eyebrow product that did it all. So I signed up to receive a notice on sephora.com for when the dipbrow came back in stock.
So a couple days pass and the sephora VIB sale was still going on so I decided to order some things online that I wasn’t able to get in stores so I place my order and the next morning after I had placed my online order I get the notice that the dipbrow was back in stock. Strike four. I could’ve ordered it but I didn’t see the point in paying for the shipping for something so small so I passed on it. This is probably the point where I had reach the highest level of frustration with my quest to find the dipbrow. Watching YouTube videos of reviews and tutorials probably didn’t help my burning desire to get my hands on this elusive small pot of eyebrow elixir.
Countless visits to sephora later and I walked in yesterday cause I need a lip balm because I left one of the million lip balms I already own at home and I can’t go one day at work without any lip balm. Went to check the Anastasia section saw that there were little boxes where the dip brow display was. Kept walking towards it and the whole time I was thinking “ya they have some now but with my luck the chocolate won’t be there.” But to my surprise they had it!!! Finally!! Snatched one up and held on to it O so dearly because it was like my months frustration and constant looking were finally worth it.

Anyways decided to make a post about it because I felt it was worth sharing. I’ll post more thoughts about it when I’ve had a chance to use it more.

Double Flash Friday

Yes I know I missed last flash friday not off to the best of starts.. Therefore to MAKE UP for it I am doing a double flash friday (see what it did there its puny admit it =P). With two products that I have been using together to complement each other.

doubleflash friday hourglass

First is the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

Application: Easy enough goes on after moisturizer and before foundation/concealer. One thing I did not like was that it got really watery that it was gross and I wondered if it was expired. But a lot of shaking and mixing later it went away.

Price: Expensive I got the smallest size 0.33 oz for $21 CAD the 1 oz is $60 CAD. Its nice it comes in a small size so you can try it out and see if its worth getting the full size. Otherwise I would have never purchased this.

Formula: Texture takes some getting used to especially if you don’t normally use primers like I do. It matifies the areas you apply it to. I like to put it on my T-zone to control shine throughout the day.

Summed up in one sentence: For its price I don’t see myself repurchasing this. I don’t feel like it made such a huge difference that I would need to get this again once I run out. There are more comparable primers that are not as expensive.

So that wasn’t such a hit…. On to the next!

&& that is the Laura Mercier Secret Camoflague in SC-5. This I love and I cannot believe I went this long without it.

Application: A little strange at first because its not like other concealers that I have used before . Its not the same in they way it has a waxy texture versus a thicker creamy consistency. It takes some practice because there are two colours and I needed to play around with it a couple times to get my ideal colour since I’m in between the two colours that come in the package.  I use a dense concealer brush to apply it onto any blemishes and dark spots I may have.

Price: $38 CAD from Sephora. To me its reasonable considering the amount of product there is 0.26 oz you honestly do not need very much to cover a spot it is highly pigmented.

Formula: Like I mentioned before it is waxy but the pigmentation and staying power is phenomenal.

Summed up in one sentence: Once you get used to it, it becomes a staple. Definitely watch some youtube videos on how to use it and how to apply secret camouflage. I’m including two videos that really helped me understand and use secret camouflage better.

Goss Make up artist- The basis: getting your foundation to look like skin Invisible foundation tutorial

Lisa Elridge- Some of my all time favourite make up ~Skip to 3:05 where she talks about the Laura Mercier Secret camouflage. Thats if you don’t want to go through all of the other stuff she talks about.

These are both great youtube makeup vloggers and both are professional make up artists worth checking out if you have time =)

In conclusion I put these two products together because I like them together and they do complement each other. I think it is good to apply a primer before the secret camouflage just so that it applies better and helps make it stay especially when your going from running errands to going to the gym. I usually apply a powder foundation like my NARS powder in Mountain or the classic bare minerals foundation.

Until next time,

Flash Friday

So I’m going to start doing this thing called flash friday. Hopefully this will encourage me to post more. Because like the title says; it’s going to be every friday. Basically its a super fast review of products I’m currently using. If you are like me and get bored really easily reading whole page reviews on beauty products then this is something I think you’ll like.

So lets get started with the first ever inaugural Flash Friday.

Butterfly-Mascara_LOreal-Paris-Voluminous-Butterfly-Mascara

L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara in Blackest Black

Pretty much have been loving this mascara and I’ve been using it almost every day for the past 2 weeks!

Application: The brush makes getting the eyelashes at the outside corners of your eyes super easy to build and makes them really long for that butterfly effect. Que OOOOs and AAAHHHHs 😉

Price: $8-10 depending if the drugstore is having a special on it.

Formula: washes off easily, doesn’t flake off and I do put multiple layers on.

Summed up in one sentence: I was thinking of getting lash extensions but with this mascara I don’t need to get lash extensions – that’s how amazing it is

March Beauty Haul

I don’t go shopping often but when I do…

Okay thats a lie I love to shop but this time I did quite a bit of damage. I hit up Shoppers, Sephora and Target & this is what I came out with

Image

From left to right: Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-5, Julep Freedom Polymer Top Coat, Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, Rimmel Scandaleyes in 005 Nude, Nars Matte Multiple in Laos, L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly in Blackest Black.

All of those products except for the biore pore strips are new to me. So i’m really excited to try them out.

Stay tuned cause I will be posting my thoughts and reviews of each of these products in the next couple of weeks. I’ve already started with some of them such as the Laura Mercier secret camouflage. Lets just say I’ve been using it everyday and it is quickly becoming part of my daily make up routine.
